Public Sector Contracts in the South East

The South East of England is one of the UK's most prosperous regions and a major public sector procurement market, encompassing Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and the Isle of Wight. The region has a large and diverse public sector with significant NHS activity, major county councils, two universities with major teaching hospitals, and important defence and security procurement through MOD South East and GCHQ Cheltenham.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is the South East's largest county, with Hampshire County Council running one of England's largest local authority procurement programmes across highways, social care, education, IT, and strategic commissioning. Portsmouth City Council and Southampton City Council are the region's largest urban unitary authorities, each with substantial independent procurement budgets.

Kent County Council is another major South East buyer, managing significant procurement across adult social care, children's services, highways, and infrastructure. The Port of Dover and Eurotunnel generate specialist procurement in transport logistics, border technology, and maritime services. Kent's Channel Tunnel proximity also creates defence and security procurement activity through the Kent Resilience Forum and Port of Dover commercial operations.

The South East has a highly active NHS procurement market through NHS Kent and Medway ICB, NHS Surrey Heartlands ICB, NHS Sussex ICB, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, and NHS Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICB. NHS South East — one of England's largest NHS regions — coordinates NHS procurement at regional level. The major academic health science centres in Oxford (Oxford AHSN) and Brighton also generate specialist research and clinical services procurement.
